This was an amazing read. Let me first say that. I have been meaning to read this for a long time now and I finally got around to reading it (my first read of the year)! I definitely was not disappointed. If you’ve ever questioned the sequence of events of life and have found yourself searching for a deeper meaning in life, this is the book for you.
Starting the book, I didn’t expect it to take the story form that it did. I must say that the beginning did drag on a bit and the story started to lose momentum. I heard so many rave reviews about this book so I wanted to push through and keep reading it until I got to the supposed “good part.” It did indeed get better as the story progressed. The author painted a great story and had me questioning whether the events of the story were real or imagined…I still don’t know. (Correction: after finishing the book I googled it and found out that it’s fiction).
The basic premise of the book without giving too much away is a story of a man who travels on a hunch to Peru in search for a secret manuscript that basically contains the keys to life. As the story unfolds, the reader learns about each of these keys to life. My only wish was that the author went into more detail about each of these “Insights” but I know that there are sequels to this book and in a few of the sequels, Redfield focuses on a single “Insight” or lesson.
This book is powerful and will really have you thinking outside the box and re-examining different aspects of your life. This book even had me thinking back to my family upbringing and how my parents deeply influenced and affected the person I am today. No matter what faith you do or don’t practice, I think you will find meaning somewhere in this book. If you are a person who has always questioned the meaning of life and what your deeper purpose is or if you’ve questioned religion, or are searching for some type of truth, this is definitely the book for you. However, if you’re a skeptic or are more of a fact-based person, then this may not be the book for you!
I heard too much about this book over the years not to actually check it out and I’m happy that I actually did. I definitely plan on getting the sequels to see if they’re as good as the original!
I give this book an 8.5 out of 10!
